Kristine JohnsonMarch 2008I met my fiancé Sean on a blind date. One of my former blind dates set us up and we hit it off right away. We began dating right away. On one of early dates, we went to the Chicago Art Institute, I was happy he enjoyed and support art as much a I did. As we were in the section with antique furniture I spotted a green, velvet “Gone With the Wind” style chair. Jokingly, Sean started speaking with an English accent and said “Pick anything you’d like darling, whatever you want is yours!” I choose a beautiful Scarlet O’Hara couch, he then said he would have it shipped to me. After that, now and then I would ask him where the couch was and he would always reply, “It’s on the way!” I really loved his sense of humor. Although we got along very well and I loved spending time with him, it took me I while before I really fell for him, but when I did, I fell hard. We began talking about marriage and I started to get really anxious for the proposal. In January of 2007, we went to the Art Institute again. When we made our way to the furniture section, I found the special sofa and said, “There’s my sofa, when can I get it?” Just then, Sean got on one and said, “I can’t give you that couch, but I can give you this.” He held up his grandmothers engagement ring, and then put it on my finger as I said “Yes!”. Sean can be a shy guy, so I never thought he would propose in a public place. I was happy to accept the ring rather than the couch! We will marry in May of 2009. We wanted a long engagement because I am still in grad school and we need the time to save money. We are planning to go on a Caribbean cruise for our honeymoon, but we aren’t quite sure which islands we are going to yet. Winning the wedding dress definitely helps this poor student out! I am very appreciative for this opportunity!
