Carrie Schnell

May 2005

In high school you look for friends, experiences and change. That change for Charles and I included sports (swimming and track), a good education and the beginning of a relationship with our future mates.

Even though Charles and I knew each other for so many years we did not begin dating until late in our college years. Even then it wasn't easy, he was in LaCrosse, WI and I was in Appleton, WI, at the opposite ends of the state. After a surprise reunion, Charles asked me out for what would begin six year's of dating and companionship. Despite having been together for what many consider "ages," Charles surprised me yet again when he asked me to marry him at Navy Pier in Chicago, IL on February 19th, 2005. In fact, during the entire proposal I kept asking him what he was doing on one knee in the Chicago cold. His best friend fought off the flu and a stint in the local infirmary that same morning for an excellent dinner and an important job of being the photographer for the special moment; he will be the best man in our wedding. With a beautiful view of the city, he got down on one knee and asked me to marry him, by the way I said Yes!

We are planning to get married on March 25, 2006. We're very excited about getting married at Holy Name Cathedral in Chicago since in 1940 my grandparents made the same walk down the aisle. Our reception is planned for the Wyndham Drake, Oakbrook.

I recently began shopping for my wedding dress and House Of Brides had the largest selection of wedding dresses available, which might have been intimidating but Luba my bridal consultant gave me all the attention of shopping in a small boutique. Then I received a call from a young lady at "Chicago Wedding Pages" letting me know that I had won a free wedding gown from an on-line contest. This was such great news; I was so excited I called my family and all my bridesmaids (not my fiancée, he found out later). Charles is also very excited and thankful, he has also been telling a few people of his own about the wonderful prize.

An important factor in both of our lives is family and friends that is why it’s so very special that our family and friends will join us in celebrating our marriage next March. We are looking forward to the big day, but also to our new life together. Another great part of this whole adventure is the honeymoon. We are planning on a cruise, which stops at the Panama Canal, South American, Aruba and Caribbean Islands. After all the planning and excitement is over and we can get back to what matters most, each other. That will give us plenty of time to look back and thank everyone who was involved in making this our special moment.
