Kathryn MittmanNovember 2005In the fall of 2003, I met my fiancé David in Chicago through Match.com. We communicated for the next few months via e-mail and phone. We finally had our first date on December 19, 2003 at the Lincoln Park Zoo to check out the Zoo Lights Festival. We hit it off instantly as we braved Chicago’s cold wintry weather to see the animals and light displays. It was the best first date that I had ever had! And so our relationship began… In May of 2004, a job opportunity became available for me in Southern California. David unselfishly supported me in my decision to take advantage of this opportunity and pursue a life-long dream of living on the west coast. As we carried on a long distance relationship, our feelings towards each other grew stronger with each passing day. In December of 2004, I made a last minute visit to Chicago. Little did I know that that was going to be the weekend that David would propose to me! Saturday evening, David and I went out to a delicious dinner at Mon Ami Gabi in Lincoln Park, IL. After our dinner, we headed to the Lincoln Park Zoo, the place where all the magic began. After roaming around for a bit, we made our way over to the seal pool where he and I first met a year earlier. Then before I knew it, David was telling me how much he loved me and wanted to marry me, so he dropped down on one knee and pulled out a gorgeous diamond ring from his pocket. I was completely caught off guard, absolutely speechless and excited all at the same time! We called our families to share the news, although David had already spoken to my parents earlier in the week to ask for their blessing. Later that evening, we headed to our friend’s house for her annual holiday party to share our wonderful news! I moved back to Chicago in June of 2005. Our wedding ceremony will be held in June 2006 at the wonderful church that we attend in Lincoln Park, IL and our reception will be held at a Country Club in the suburbs. We are hopeful that many of our friends and families will be able to share in this joyous occasion. David and I have become the best of friends and are thrilled to be able to spend the rest of our lives together. |
