Monica BarczJanuary 2006My fiancé and I are getting married on October 7, 2006, which is the date of our nine-year anniversary. I have been waiting for this day since I was a little girl and now it is finally coming true! Our courtship has been long, but worth the wait. I first met my fiancé, Nick, while working for a local pizza joint. I devised a plan to get us alone. So one night after work I asked him to give me a ride home. Before I got out of his car, he leaned in and planted one on me! It was our first kiss and my suspicions were proven right! Who would’ve thought that this was the beginning of us spending the rest of our lives together! September 23, 2005 was just an ordinary day, or so I thought. This was the night Nick proposed and it was better then anything I could have imagined. I arrived home and Nick told me that we were going to “our beach,” where we went on our first date. Little did I know that this was going to make “our” place even more special then it already was! It was a beautiful night at “our beach.” As we walked, we felt a cool breeze off the water, heard the waves crisply crash onto the sidewalk and watched the bright moon glisten a vibrant red. It was right out of a movie! As we walked hand in hand to our spot, I was telling him that it was a perfect night for the two of us in “our” perfect place. He squeezed my hand and said, “You think so, huh?” We got to our spot and as we sat and talked, Nick asked if I wanted to go down the beach a bit further. As I got up and went to pull on his hand to help him up, he got down on his knee, pulled out the ring and said “Will You Marry Me?” I started to cry and kept repeating, “Shut up! Are you serious?” for what seemed like five minutes afterwards. He was still on his knee waiting for an answer. He asked me again, “Will You Marry Me?” I said, “Yes” and continued to cry and kiss Nick, just savoring the moment. We sat and talked about what had just happened and how he had planned everything. During our conversation he referred to me as his fiancé, which gave me goose bumps and reminded me of what a wonderful man I was going to be marrying. At the end of the night we toasted to “our beach” and our new lives together. My advice to a newly engaged bride is to start planning early so it’s not overwhelming by the end. Being organized is also essential. I have a planner where I put everything from pictures of wedding gowns and flowers, to all of my vendor information -- if I need to contact them they are right at my fingertips! Although everything can be quite time consuming and detailed, I enjoyed the whole process, especially picking out my gown. I want to thank ChicagoStyle Weddings and The House of Brides in Oak Lawn, IL, for choosing me as the winner for their bridal gown giveaway this quarter! With their help and the help of every one of my bridesmaids, mother and soon to be mother-in-law, this experience has given me everything I’ve dreamed of and more. Once this whirl-wind is over and we return from our fabulous honeymoon in the Hawaiian Islands and Las Vegas, it is just going to be me and my man! We have grown so close these past 8 years that we are not only lovers but also best friends. I believe that we will live happily ever after, just like the fairy tale. |
