Amanda AustinDecember 2006I was living in Seattle in October 2002 when I met my fiancé, Larry. He was living in the Chicago suburbs, and had just been accepted to Berklee School of Music in Boston to study guitar. Before leaving for school he decided to fly out to Seattle to visit a good friend he had gone to high school with in Illinois. As it turned out, this friend was a co-worker of mine. His wife and I were good friends and we went out together often. They invited me to join them on a night out with their friend, Larry, who told them the one thing he wanted to do while he was in Seattle was…karaoke! I happen to be a huge fan of karaoke, and had to meet this person who, on vacation to a brand new town, makes karaoke a priority! Not surprisingly, we really hit it off! We spent the next night together at a friend’s party, and then he flew back a month later to see me again. Larry moved to Boston in January, and we dated long-distance for a year and a half, Then in June of 2004, I finally decided to move to Boston with him. The funny thing is, since I was 13, I had always wanted to live in Boston, no particular reason…I just wanted to be out there, so it was a happy coincidence that I was dating someone who was now living in Boston! It was just another reason, among many, that I knew we were meant to be. Time passed quickly, and in February 2006 Larry proposed! It was the night before my birthday and we decided to go out because we had plans to out with friends on my birthday. We went to our “special” restaurant for an amazing dinner, and then went home and I opened my presents. Everything was wonderful! But later that evening, Larry said he had one more present for me, and then he proposed! I was so surprised I asked three times whether or not he was kidding, once I realized he was serious, I said “yes,” and the next night at my birthday party, we were able to tell all our friends the good news. It was a wonderful way to celebrate a birthday! This past September, we moved to Illinois where we plan on settling down. We will be married in Chicago at the Hotel Monaco on Memorial Day weekend. Because our friends are from all over the country, the majority of our guests will be traveling to attend the wedding. Therefore we want to spend as much time as possible with them all. The ceremony will be held on Sunday, but we have other events planned for the guests on Friday and Saturday, so we can celebrate all weekend. Larry is planning our honeymoon and it will be a complete surprise to me! Larry and I look forward to a fantastic weekend in May with all our friends and family, and a bright and long future together as husband and wife. |
